Mandalas

The symbol of the circle and the production mandalas is often associated with the expression of the totality of the psyche in all its aspects, including the relationship between man and the whole of nature. The symbol of the circle is one of the most important motifs in the objectivation of unconscious images and the production of circle images and mandalas can indicate the ego's capacity to assimilate unconscious material. Carl Jung stated that "the mandala is a sacred, holy, protected space; psychologically, descriptive of both a personal container and the sense of privacy that surrounds an analytical relationship." The circle, as the symbol of completeness and perfect being, may be a widespread expression for heaven, sun, and God; it also expresses the primordial image of man and the soul, as well as depict psychic content and images of the Self. It may also be observed as a means of protecting the centre of the personality from being drawn out and from being influenced from outside.
